“AUREA DUO” MONUMENTAL KINETIC PUBLIC ART SCULPTURE
AUREA DUO BY CESAR HENAO
AUREA DUO
The monumental kinetic sculpture "Aurea Duo" is an iconic work by César Henao, unveiled in Vaison-la-Romaine. Composed of over 3800 steel tubes, this sculpture represents Empress Sabine and Emperor Hadrian, symbolizing the Roman presence in the region.
"Aurea Duo" explores the relationship between movement and stability through its forms, reflections, and the design of the tubes, which change depending on the observer's position and the light. This public commemorative work celebrates the centenary of the new appellation "La Romaine," thus affirming the historical and cultural importance of the city.
Installed at the entrance of the Puymin archaeological sites, the largest archaeological site in France, "Aurea Duo" marks the beginning of the excavations in 1912 and creates a new innovative landmark projecting towards the future. The project took 18 months to complete, requiring the use of 3800 tubes and 25,000 connectors, as well as advanced techniques for its realization and installation within the allotted time.

Aurea Duo, this dream of metal, was made possible thanks to the crucial support of Léonard Gianadda. His financial and logistical backing enabled César Henao to bring this monumental work to life. This collaboration between artist and patron resulted in a balanced and innovative creation, celebrating the centenary of the new appellation "La Romaine" and highlighting the historical and cultural significance of Vaison-la-Romaine.
